Publication Type:

Africa; Popular Culture; Theatre; Arts; Mass Media; Music

This volume deals with the way in which artists in Africa draw on the various resources of cultural production to create their own interpretations and expressions of lived realities. It challenges academic narratives that view popular cultural forms as being instrumentally produced through global circuits of dominant cultures and classes, highlighting instead the various ways in which independent artists and media producers have created spaces to express themselves.
